Astrology Unfiltered: Jax Atlantis on Pokémon Astrology, Venus Retrograde & the Fire Phoenix

When astrologer Jax Atlantis joined Jaclyn Joy for episode 9 of Astrology Unfiltered, what began as a conversation about planetary transits quickly evolved into a wide-ranging exploration of mysticism, past lives, and—yes—Pokémon as an astrological system.

Streaming from Texas, where he's "constantly dehydrated" after months without rain, Jax brought his signature blend of evolutionary astrology, Chinese zodiac wisdom, and what he calls "my own custom mysticism" to the show.

Why Did He Choose the Name Jax Atlantis?

Host Jaclyn Joy opened by asking about his memorable name. "I thought at the time that I needed to have a stage name," Jax explained, recalling his 2017 start in the field after leaving a psychic hotline that had assigned him the name Frederick. "I wanted something sharp and simple... Jax Atlantis, that'll be memorable."

The Atlantis connection runs deeper than branding. "I believe in past lives," he said, "so I believe that there are past lives of mine that are connected in Atlantis." The name stuck so thoroughly that he's now legally changing it. "Over time, it just started to bleed over into my personal life where I was like, I don't want my original name. This is my name."

Jaclyn shared her own synchronicity: as a teenager, she'd experimented with calling herself "Jax" as a nickname. "It was almost like... I was downloading something extraterrestrial or alien," she mused.

What Makes His Astrological Practice Unique?

Born with Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus all in Libra's third decan—plus Aquarius rising and Mars in Gemini—Jax describes himself as having "just a problem" when it comes to air sign energy. His journey to astrology wound through tarot, Native American spirit animals, Druidism, Celtic magic, ESP, and remote viewing studies spanning decades.

"I call myself an astrologer, and that's true," he explained, "but at the same time, technically it's the thing I call myself because it has an actual form. What I actually do from a day-to-day basis... is sort of a general kind of my own custom mysticism. I'm sort of a mystic more than anything."

His specialties include evolutionary astrology, harmonics, Chinese astrology, tarot, and the upcoming focus: Aztec astrology. Unlike the modern Mayan Dream Spell from the 1980s, "Aztec astrology is a system that existed in history," Jax noted, adding that it's based on the Mercury cycle.

The Chinese astrology discussion revealed Jaclyn's chart: a fire rooster progressing to earth rooster, symbolizing a journey from "constantly in the fires of transmutation" to becoming "a crystallized, sensible pillar... for other beings that are based in the chaos energy." As Jax put it: "You'll have figured out your stuff. And of course, there's no surprise, it's like the ending of the story is like you realize that there was no particular form of knowledge or wisdom that was ever necessarily the thing. It was the process."

What's Coming With Venus Retrograde and Beyond?

The conversation turned to current transits, particularly the Venus in Scorpio retrograde. "It feels so less about money and so much more about the relationship aspect," Jax observed. "What does loyalty mean to you? What do relationships actually mean to you? What is offensive to you? What is a sacred line that you cross or don't cross with others?"

He noted the retrograde will be intensely personal: "This all feels personal, for better or worse. And it could be for better, but sometimes it'll be for worse."

Looking at larger patterns, Jax highlighted the Neptune sextile Pluto transit and its significance for the Pluto in Scorpio generation. "So many of us were activated all of a sudden. It's like someone said, 'Blue apricot,' and we just woke up and started doing a bunch of spiritual mission stuff." The upcoming Pluto square, he said, is "activating that without kidding around... that's why certain people are leaving, and other people are doubling and tripling down and going all the way."

On Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini, his optimism was palpable. "We earned it," he said simply. "We've had enough. And Neptune, it belongs to the fire signs now. Pluto, that's given to us, and we're ready for whatever comes next."

The conversation took a delightful turn into hypothetical Pokémon astrology—Pisces as Mew, Aries as Charmander, Scorpio as Umbreon or Gastly, Gemini as Mewtwo. "You could definitely do it," Jax laughed. "This is something you could do."

His creative process combines art and astrology through daily posts designed on Procreate. "I want to illustrate," he explained. "Even if I reuse an old image... I want it to be a day that is kind of stamped with that energy and that artwork." Each post includes planetary glyphs as "micro-educating"—helping followers unconsciously learn astrological symbols over time.

For the upcoming Year of the Fire Goat, Jax is releasing monthly e-books combining Chinese and Western astrology with audio options. His website offers previous editions, and he's planning a class series on planetary nodes, examining historical moments when planets transit their own nodes.
