ATIL Nan Akasha Takes Viewers Through a Mayan Solar Serpent Initiation at Chichen Itza

When shaman and priestess Nan Akasha began her live-streamed ATIL Day 1 session, she made one request: "Turn everything off, maybe light a candle, create a sacred space." What followed was a 57-minute journey through Mayan temples, solar initiations, and the rising wisdom of an ancient culture that understood human beings as divine creators from birth.

Speaking from London but channeling the energy of the Yucatan where she's lived for a decade, Nan wove together teaching, ceremony, and direct transmission—guiding viewers through the equinox phenomenon at Chichen Itza as eclipse and new moon energies converged.

What Makes Nan Akasha's Work Different?

Nan doesn't approach sacred sites as a tourist or even a scholar. She's a frequency worker who's been training for 38 years in what she calls "vibrational medicine"—the understanding that everything, from your liver to a pyramid to sea salt grown in pyramid-shaped crystals, carries a specific energetic signature.

Her path to the Maya began unexpectedly. "I was called to all these other pyramids... finding the ones I could go inside of, finding the ones I could be on top of during equinox and climb and chant and do ceremony," she shared. But a year ago, after returning from England, "several things lined up that went boom, boom, boom—you have to go to Chichen." She's now been to Chichen Itza 35 times in the past year, working with Mayan elder Miguel Ángel, who served as director at the site for four years and "has been in every temple."

What Nan discovered changed everything: "I understand it now from my ancient self—you can't just go to the big temple and chop your head off your ego and do your top-level initiations without clearing the pain, without completing your patterns, without recognizing who you are."

How Does the Solar Serpent Initiation Actually Work?

The heart of Nan's presentation was a guided experience of the equinox phenomenon at Chichen Itza—when light and shadow create the illusion of a serpent descending the pyramid. But as Nan explains it, this is far more than optical illusion. It's an initiation technology.

"The entire plaza was covered in tile painted red," she described, asking viewers to imagine 50,000 priests and priestesses gathered, chanting sacred sounds as seven triangles of light form down the pyramid's edge. Each triangle corresponds to a chakra, creating what Nan calls "solar initiations" to the third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral, and root—then back up again as earth energy returns.

She led viewers through the descent: "I am light, only light, eternal light," she chanted as each triangle formed. "Feel it coming into your heart center... bringing you into beautiful balance with your human and your divine, with your pain and your joy." When the energy reached the base, she invited participants to give their ego, judgment, and worry to "grandmother jaguar, to the heart of the earth—she will take it, transform it, compost it, and feed you back."

Watching the full replay, you can feel Nan holding ceremonial space even through a screen—her voice slowing, deepening, as she walks viewers through each stage of activation.

The teaching is precise: "This download is not blasting you with so much light that you forget everything. It is balancing you." The equinox represents perfect equilibrium—day and night equal, masculine and feminine in harmony. The serpent Kukulkan (called Quetzalcoatl in other Mesoamerican traditions) is the "feathered serpent," the union of earth (serpent) and sky (feathers), matter and spirit.

What Did the Maya Actually Believe About Being Human?

Perhaps the most radical teaching Nan offered was about Mayan consciousness itself. "The Maya believed and knew that they were divine and human the minute they were born. Imagine being raised that way."

She explained that on the second day after birth, a child's family and community would know their birth sign and purpose. "They were supported to become their purpose. Nobody said, 'I'm a doctor, you should be a doctor. Why do you want to be a musician? Go get a responsible job.' Nobody said that." Each person was understood as a necessary piece of the community puzzle, whether king, priest, or farmer—not a hierarchy, but roles in an interconnected whole.

"Everybody was raised as a priest or priestess to a certain degree," Nan continued. "You would understand the sacred symbols, the sacred chants, the movement of the stars, the understanding of prophecy—that you are a prophet. Because whatever you decide to say and believe, that story you agree to becomes the reality you live. That's how powerful you are."

This understanding underpins all of Nan's work: we are not seeking empowerment from outside ourselves. We are remembering what the Maya never forgot. "'Maya' means chosen one. It doesn't mean you have a particular skin color, were raised in a particular area, born from certain parents. Maya is a state of consciousness."

She spoke about the cultural erasure—how the Spanish destroyed the culture, how modern Mexican government doesn't allow Mayan people to perform ceremonies at their own sacred sites, how she's had musical instruments confiscated from her bag. "No pre-Hispanic music, no pre-Hispanic ceremonies are allowed." And yet: "We are rising in all these cultures. We're rising back to wisdom."

The transmission crescendoed as Nan guided the final activation: "I am a chosen one. I chose to be here now. I chose this life. I chose this body. I love my life. I love my body. I love my purpose. I free myself now and I'm filled with light." Then the overflow: "Let the light now overflow from you... into your body, your clothes, your room, your chair, your air, your breath, your thoughts, your family, with every touch and every breath."

By the end, even host Neil appeared moved, saying he'd been "in and out of dimensions" during the session. "The mind codes you're bringing in today... your passion coupled with the frequencies and the places you're referring to... it felt like a Mayan blessing."

Nan shared that at a recent in-person event in England, attendees approached her all day "in tears, vibrating," saying they felt like they were home again. "It's that weaving we're doing around the world—as I accept and remember and share, it's awakening."

For those called to go deeper, Nan is leading a March expedition to Mayan sites with researcher Maria Wheatley and elder Miguel Ángel, timed to "the beginning of the 33 Days of Kukulkan." They'll visit eight or nine sacred sites, mapping earth energies and pyramid alignments, receiving private access and "getting to have this solar activation" at the source.
