Random Rab Plays Two Nights in Sedona: Downtempo on Friday, Dance on Saturday

Random Rab has spent more than twenty years playing the hours most artists never see: the sunrise sets, the last set of the night, the one people talk about on the drive home. On Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10 he plays two nights in Sedona at humankind, and the two nights are not the same show.

Presented by Reciprocity Music and humankind, Random Rab: Two Nights in Sedona is built as two distinct journeys. Friday is downtempo, with special guest Exologik. Saturday is for dancing, with special guest Lady Merkaba. You can come for one night, or take both with the two-night pass.

Who Is Random Rab?

Random Rab, born Rab Clinton, is a Colorado-based electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist. He came up in the San Francisco underground of the late 1990s, where he began blending live instruments and his own voice with electronic production, and that blend of the organic and the electronic has been his signature ever since.

His debut album, Epicycle, came out in 2001. More than a dozen albums have followed, moving from downtempo bass music toward acoustic and ambient work: Visurreal (2011) and Release (2013) both reached the Top 5 of the iTunes electronic chart, and they were followed by Awoke (2015), Formless Edge (2017) and On Magnificence (2023). His music has also been used in projects for National Geographic, Adobe and Google.

On stage he is best known for sunrise. He has played Burning Man for 25 years, his dawn sets at Envision Festival in Costa Rica were a tradition for ten years running, and he has appeared at Lightning in a Bottle, Coachella, Shambhala in Canada, Boom in Portugal and Ozora in Hungary. In 2012 he played three different solar eclipse gatherings, and he headlined The Great Convergence at the Great Pyramids of Giza. Grateful Web called him “a luminary of the West Coast’s psychedelic-bass music diaspora.”

What Happens on Friday Night?

Friday, October 9 is the Downtempo Journey. The set moves through electronic, world, ambient and downtempo sounds, a night made for deep listening, movement and connection. Special guest Exologik opens. Doors are at 8:00 PM and the night runs until midnight.

What Happens on Saturday Night?

Saturday, October 10 is the Dance Experience. Random Rab turns to the energetic side of his sound: electronic music, global rhythms and dance, with the room at humankind set up as an immersive dance floor. Special guest Lady Merkaba opens. Doors are at 8:00 PM and the night runs until 1:00 AM.

Why See Him in Sedona?

Most people who have seen Random Rab saw him from a festival field. These two nights are indoors, in a room with limited capacity, with professional sound, lighting and immersive visuals. Both nights are all ages, and there is no curfew. It is a rare chance to hear both sides of his music, back to back, in the red rocks.
