The Up Vibe: April Curry on Self-Love Anchors & Being Authentically Weird

Channeler April Curry shares her journey from Navy rescue swimmer to seven years in a camper meditating—and why being yourself is the only spiritual practice you need.

What happens when a former Navy rescue swimmer gets kicked out of every structure she tries to join—then spends seven years alone in a camper, meditating? For April Curry, it opened a channel to the Akashic Records and a mission to help starseeds stop trying to fit in and start being themselves.

In the latest episode of The Up Vibe with Aurora Luna Star, Mount Shasta-based channeler and intuitive teacher April Curry sat down for a raw, unfiltered conversation about childhood abuse, spiritual amnesia, and why authenticity is the only practice that actually works. "If you made it your number one goal to just learn what you are and learn what your authentic expression is, everything works out. Everything," April told host Aurora.

What Does It Mean to Channel at Seven—and Forget It for Decades?

April's origin story reads like a starseed playbook: early contact with an "angelic, translucent, galactic being" as a baby, premonitions throughout childhood, and channeling for her mother during crisis—all while having no conscious memory of it. "I didn't know that I was channeling until in my 30s when my mom reminded me," she explained. "I literally just went through life with these sensitivities and thought there was something wrong with me."

Diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, April kept getting ejected from every conventional path: school structures didn't fit, college felt like resistance, she tried corporate America selling payroll ("it was awful"), even attempted a singing career before learning about the "nasty" inner workings of the music industry. She joined the Navy as an air crew rescue swimmer, following her Air Force general grandfather's legacy—only to be medically discharged for an eating disorder she'd had in high school but not during service.

"There's just all these moments where I kept getting kicked out of structure," April said. "So I took full responsibility. It wasn't just, 'Oh, it's their fault I got kicked out.' There must be something in me that I need to look at."

Why Would Someone Meditate in a Camper for Seven Years?

At 22, April bought a camper and disappeared into the woods. For seven years. "I just innately knew there must be something within me that needs to be looked at, released, worked on," she shared. "I tried to leave that camper several times, and I just got thrown back in and like, 'Meditate.' I'm like, 'Okay, b***h.'"

April shares her journey from isolation to embodied channeling

The breakthrough came around 2017 when Reiki certification combined with all that meditation "blasted" her channel wide open. She moved to Maui and began working with the Akashic Records—not just to clear old patterns, but to access innovation, connection, and what she calls "the universal ChatGPT." As Aurora noted, even spiritual teacher Geraldine Orozco's intensive retreat was only a year; April's seven-year initiation was remarkable.

"The beginning half of the Akashic Records is peeling back all the layers holding you back," April explained. "But that's just the beginning phase. The other part is once you're clear, you start to find information and energy that your expression has an affinity for." For April, that means exploring human connection, harmony, and unity—and teaching others to do the same.

How Do You Stay Sovereign When the World Feels This Heavy?

When Aurora asked how to navigate "just how crunchy it could get" in these times, April offered a practice she uses daily: the power of loving neutrality combined with self-love anchoring. "The way to feel sovereign and anchored in yourself is through what I like to call the power of loving neutrality, and then the power of self-love," she said.

The technique is somatic: ask the Akashic Records, "What does it feel like to be in loving neutrality?" Then feel the shift in your body. Ask, "What does self-love anchor feel like?" and embody that frequency. "You're creating this inner universe, where then you're just paying attention to you and you yourself and I," April explained. "From there, that just naturally expands outward."

She's adamant that riding the waves isn't failure: "If you pick up on one of those waves, to not be hard on yourself. There's a reason for everything. It's not about a perfection game, it's about an acceptance game." Aurora resonated deeply, noting that until we unplug from the collective, "we're constantly struggling with the vibration of what mass humanity is experiencing."

April closed the conversation with a guided meditation viewers can experience in the full episode, leading participants through grounding, opening the crown chakra, and asking the field directly for the somatic experience of loving neutrality and self-love. "Set the intention that your body will hold this frequency, even when your mind forgets about it throughout the day," she instructed.

Her $11 Intuitive Intelligence membership includes over 100 hours of courses (psychic mediumship, Reiki shares, empath rescue, automatic writing) and weekly live classes every Wednesday at 5 PM PST. "Nobody should be feeling that they can't participate," she said. She also offers an eight-week Akashic Records course with only six students per season, emphasizing learning to read yourself first: "If you can do that, then you can read other people with ease."

Perhaps the most powerful moment came when April dropped this truth: "The more you are yourself, the more you can channel." Aurora called it "a nugget of gold," and it's the thread running through April's entire journey—from camper hermit to goofy, cussing teacher who refuses hierarchy and just wants everyone to "have a good time" while accessing the infinite.
