Most of us know the feeling. A project stalls, a relationship goes flat, a health issue lingers, and pushing harder does nothing. On this episode of Upgrade 101, The Foundation for the New You, host Leilani Cline and guest Sheila Raman take that feeling apart and hand it back as a checklist.

Leilani Cline opens the episode with a shared om and a few minutes of movement.

Leilani opens the show the way she opens her retreats: a shared om, a Sedona singing bowl and a few minutes of movement. Seated cat-cow to open the chest. Sufi grinds, small circles of the torso, to loosen the lower body. A hand tapping at the heart to tell the body it is safe. Each takes under a minute. The hard part, she says, is remembering to do them. Watch the replay on humankind and follow along.

Her framing is direct. Instead of looking at the block outside, take full responsibility and ask where it lives inside you. She leans on a Ram Dass line: the only work any of us can do for each other is to work on ourselves.

What does a blocked chakra look like in daily life?

Then Sheila brings the science. A psychologist, musician and sound researcher, she uses technology to make the invisible visible: electromagnetic fields, voice patterns, the body's own light emissions. Her observation is that once people can see an interference pattern in their voice or their field, they believe it, and they start changing things.

Her main gift to the conversation is a plain-language map of the chakras, tied to organs and hormones rather than mysticism, with a picture of what each block looks like in daily life.

Sheila Raman, psychologist, musician and sound researcher, walks through the chakras one by one.

Root: adrenals, kidneys, feet. A block looks like money stress, unstable housing and survival mode. The starting point is feeling safe and secure.

Sacral: the reproductive system and creative life force. A block looks like creative dryness, repressed emotion and weak boundaries. Emotion, she notes, gets stored in the hips.

Solar plexus: personal power and decision making. A block looks like over-giving and saying yes when you mean no. The antidote is clarity: state what you choose and what you do not, and keep those boundaries. Sheila adds a rule from her own practice: clearing creates a vacuum, so always follow a release with an intention that fills the space.

Heart: thymus, lungs, circulation. A block looks like sadness, betrayal and not trusting life. Her prescription is one word repeated. "Community, community, community," Sheila says. The second piece is expression: journaling, a friend, a therapist, painting, singing. She wrote her own painful experience into a science-fiction novel, and once it was out of her body and on the page, the looping patterns stopped.

Throat: Sheila points out that public speaking ranks above death as a common fear, because being rejected for speaking your truth hurts that much. Both agree the fastest way in is toning and singing at home or in the car, where no one can hear you. Sheila demonstrates a tone live. Leilani says you can notice a shift within three days.

Third eye: imagination versus consumption. Doom scrolling floods the mind with images the body still has to digest. Meditation, Sheila says, works like a digestive enzyme for everything you took in. Leilani's version: a house you have filled with stuff for forty years and never cleaned.

Crown: living purely from the physical with no sense of a higher self or larger whole. The remedy is meditation that observes thoughts without judgment and lets them pass.

"Community, community, community": Sheila on what clears a blocked heart.

Can you photograph what meditation does to your energy?

The research segment is the episode's most surprising stretch. Sheila describes the Bio-Well, a gas-discharge imaging device that takes a Kirlian-style photograph of the body's field and returns a measurable reading. For three weeks, twice a week, she tracked her own field against her habits. Meditation, time in nature, yoga, sunlight and green juice made the image brighter and more expansive. Long hours at a laptop with no sun or movement dimmed it, and negative self-talk drained it fastest of all.

What is the homework?

Leilani sets the homework: three minutes of Sufi grinds, a ten-minute walk, a few minutes of toning.
Leilani sets the homework: three minutes of Sufi grinds, a ten-minute walk, a few minutes of toning.

The homework is small on purpose. Three minutes of Sufi grinds. A ten-minute walk, head uncovered to sun or stars. A few minutes of toning or singing. Write down where you think you are stuck, do the three practices tomorrow, and notice what changes in a couple of days.

Leilani closes with the line that sums up the show: "we're the platform and you are the content." Sheila's sessions and research are at xosar.com, and she leads the Sacred Resonance sound healing events in Sedona. Leilani hosts a Sedona retreat this November. Watch the full episode on humankind.
